Is Formula Student for you?

Formula Student is not only for mechanical or electrical engineers—it’s a playground for all kinds of talents.

Whether your background is in design, computer science, business, or media, you can find a role that matches your skills and pushes you to grow further. Students of engineering, mechatronics, and computer science contribute to areas like vehicle design, simulation, electronics, and software development.

But the team also thrives on people with experience or hobbies in media design, photography, video editing, or social media management, who help shape the team’s image and outreach. Even skills gained through part-time jobs—such as project coordination, marketing, or craftsmanship—are highly valuable. If you’re motivated to learn, enjoy working hands-on in a team, and want to take your passion to the next level, Formula Student has a place for you.

If you are looking for a job though you should know this: Members of Formula Student Teams are unpaid. The time and effort you put in is not rewarded financially but by a wealth of newly acquired experiences, knowledge and access to a well connected network in the engineering industry.

Open Positions

We’re looking for you

We constantly need new talent – primarily at but not limited to the start of each semester.

Below you will find a selection of positions we are still looking to fill in the 2026 season.

However, do not be discouraged if you are unable to find anything that appeals to you at first glance – we are flexible enough to create open positions on the fly if you have a great pitch for us.

Aero / Composites

Seat / Firewall

Design and manufacture a 3D composite structure that doubles as seat and firewall, shielding the driver from the high voltage components.

Required knowledge:

CAD modeling

Front Bulkhead / Rear Impact Structure

You will engineer the structural carbon fiber composite panels that supplement the space frame and protect the driver in case of a crash. The design phase includes several iterations of compulersimulated and physical crash tests.

Required knowledge:

FEM Analysis

Underbody

You are responsible for the manufacturing of one of the largest aerodynamic components of the car. This includes mould design and manufacturing, overseeing the laminating process and engineering the internal and mounting structures.

Required knowledge:

CAD modelling

Mounting

You will design and refine the mounting solutions for the front and rear wing.

Required knowledge:

CAD modelling, FEM Analysis, Mechanical Design Principles

Bodywork

Prepare existing moulds and manufacture the Nose and other bodywork components that shape the silhouette of the car.

Electronics

Wiring Harness

Plan and manufacture the backbone of our race car – the wiring harness. You will learn how our car works on the inside as you are putting each vital connection between subsystems in their place.

Required knowledge:

Wire crimping (optional), CAD modelling

Steering Wheel [ electrical ]

Develop the main interface between the driver and the car, both in hardware and software. You can play around with the display-interface, add new functions for easier debugging, there are no limits.

Required knowledge:

Basics of C Programming, Basic understanding of electronics

Inverter

Work in a small sub-team to develop and test our self-made inverters for the upcoming seasons. This R&D projects offers you insights both in power electronics and control systems as well as the low-voltage control hardware.

Basics of C Programming, Advanced understanding of electronics

IMU

You can develop the inertial measurement unit for our new AWD race car. This highly integrated sensor offers you to learn more about PCB-Design, data analysis and vehicle dynamics as this sensor is crucial for the overall vehicle performance.

Basics of C Programming, Basic understanding of electronics

Ground Speed Sensor

Contribute to the performance of our race car by developing a new ground speed sensor. This component is neccessary for the success of our new AWD vehicle to maximize the overall performance by gathering important data for our vehicle dynamics team.

Basics of C Programming, Basic understanding of electronics, Image Processing (optional)

Vehicle Dynamics

As part of small team you will be improving the overall vehicle performance by developing and improving the torque vectoring and traction control systems of the vehicle. You will analyse our testing data and develop advanced control loops.

Required knowledge:

Basic MATlab knowledge, Basic Simulink knowledge

Operations

Business Plan

As part of a small sub-team you will flesh out a business idea based off one or more components found in the car we are competing. You will flesh out the financing model, supplychain and analyze the hypothetical enviromental impact of the business. You will prepare a pitch to be presented at the Formula Student Events.

Cost Report

As part of a small sub-team you will analyze the supply chains and efforts that go into the manufacturing of the racecar we are competing. This includes gaining a broad understanding of every component of the vehicle. You will prepare an in-depth presentation to be presented to at the Formula Student Events.

Business Economics / Enviromental Economics (optional)

Engineering Design

You will aid the rest of the team in their efforts to create comprehensive engineering design presentations. You will gain a broad understanding of every aspect of the car and oversee the overall level of quality and complete-ness of documentation.

Event Management

You will conduct the planning and behind-the-scenes communications for internal occasions as well as Formula Student competition events.

Media Design

As part of a small-subteam you will be responsible for the overall appearance of the team. You will design print media, digital flyers, master templates for presentations and UI elements for the website. With full access to the ACC you will be fully equipped to realize your creative vision.

Merchandise

You will handle the design, acquisition, warehousing and distribution of teamwear and accessory merchandise. Your creativity is the limit of what

Photography / Videography

You will accompany the team throughout the season and document the progress of development of the car as well as capturing the stories of the people behind the components.

Experience in Photography / Videography, Experience in Image / Video editing

Sponsoring

You will handle the human and legal relations between FaSTTUBe and our Sponsors. This includes the drafting of contracts and ensuring that the terms are upheld by both sides. You will develop a broad and well kept social network in the industry.

Engineer vital mechanical chassis components for setting up a race car.

Accumulator [ mechanical ]

Work with specialized materials in the accumulator or “battery” stack to build a powerful electric drivetrain.

Accumulator Cooling

Engineering desing and simulation for a high performing cooling system of an electric car’s accumulator.

Required knowledge:

Motor Cooling

Integrate a complex motor cooling system for an all wheel drive electric race car. 

Required knowledge:

Thermodynamics / ICE, Mechanics 1

Wheel Upright

Engineer and simulate the biggest mechanical part of the wheel assembly in an all-wheel drive race car.

Required knowledge:

Mechanical Design Theory 1

Pedal Box

Work with metals and composites to engineer the most important drivers interface for a race car, next to the steering wheel.

Driverless

Perception (Software)

Use cameras and LiDAR to detect cones/track limits. Tasks include calibration, synchronization, detection, and robust tracking. Optimize stability and performance of existing implementations.

Required knowledge:

Basic Python & C++, basic image processing concepts (nice-to-have: linear algebra)

SLAM – Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (Software)

Develop real-time localization and mapping with cameras and LiDAR. Estimate the car’s position, build simple maps, tune parameters and validate on logs.

Required knowledge:

Basic C++ or Python, basic probability/linear algebra

Driving Decision (Software)

Turn perception + localization into a drivable path, refine existing pathing implementations and implement simple speed/steering commands.

Required knowledge:

Basic Python

Simulation (Software)

Create and simulate scenarios to test perception, planning, and control before track days.

Required knowledge:

Basic Python, willingness to learn simulation tools

Steering Actuation

Design and build the hardware that moves the steering on command. Test and refine previous implementations. Size components, design mounts, and test response.

Required knowledge:

Basic mechanics, very basic electronics, CAD basics

EPSC — Electric Power Steering Controller

Develop a simple controller that takes steering targets and drives the steering actuator safely.

Required knowledge:

Basic C, microcontroller basics (I/O, timers)

Driverless Mounting (LiDAR + Cameras)

Design and build a rigid and lightweight mount with good alignment and clean cable routing.

Required knowledge:

CAD basics, hands-on workshop skills

EBS — Emergency Brake System

Design and build a reliable system that stops the car on command or on fault. For that test and refine previous implementations.

Required knowledge:

Basic mechanics, basic circuits, common-sense safety

DV Integration

Connect sensors, compute, and actuators so software can read data and send commands. Bring the stack up, log data, and run health checks.
